The work, the constraints,
and the numbers
Three client engagements across energy storage, payments and insurance. Each write-up includes what made it hard — because the interesting part is never the happy path.
Every engagement, in detail
8 months · installed unit fleet
LAVO: seeing a hydrogen fleet that had gone quiet
Edge-to-cloud telemetry over domestic connections nobody controls, with safety events on a separate guaranteed path — and a fortnight lost to unit identity we should have modelled in week one.
9 months · processing, settlement, reporting
MoneyChain: shrinking the part of the estate that has to be audited
Tokenisation at the edge, the compliance boundary moved into the account structure, and overnight fraud batch replaced with scoring on the stream. Scoping found card numbers in application logs, which reordered the whole program.
6 months · quote journey & partner layer
RedRate: when your page speed belongs to somebody else
Progressive results and per-partner budgets, so one slow insurer stops holding the page. Increasing parallelism made things worse first — several partners throttled, and our retries amplified it.
Every write-up has a "the hard part" section
That is deliberate. A case study without a difficulty in it is marketing, and it tells you nothing about how a team behaves when a plan meets reality.
Ours name the thing that went wrong, the call we made, and who made it.
- Card numbers found in application logs, six weeks before anything else could proceed
- Unit identity modelled against the wrong key, costing a fortnight of reprocessing
- Parallelism that pushed partner APIs into their own rate limits
- A partner returning HTTP 200 with an error document in the body
- Weeks reconstructing failure timelines because service notes recorded outcomes
- Reporting that had to be redesigned rather than migrated after tokenisation
Want to talk to one of them?
Where an engagement is comparable to yours we can walk you through the design and the cost model — and, with the client's agreement, introduce you to them directly.
